The Art of Function

At Carra Terra, we believe artistry means finding the perfect balance between beauty and utility. This philosophy manifests in a making practice that begins first with a focus on the function of the piece. We consider it our responsibility as craftspeople to find the harmony between our desired aesthetic alongside functionality.

The results can be found in the surprising lightness of a large serving platter, the considered curve to the rim of a drinking vessel, or the pragmatic commitment to ensuring all of our custom-made glazes are restaurant-grade dishwasher safe. Each functional art piece is made on the potter's wheel, shaped entirely by hand without molds or formers. The consistency in our work comes from over a decade of dedicated practice and meticulous attention to detail.

The Art of Gathering

Our work honors the sacred alchemy that occurs when exceptional food meets thoughtful service upon a canvas designed with reverence for the ritual of dining. In this confluence—where material, form, and purpose align—we find that time expands, conversations deepen, and the simple act of gathering around a shared table becomes transformative.

The Carra in Carra Terra.

While Carra is our last name, "caro" in Italian is translated to mean beloved or dear and "terra" is earth or land. Taking a little creative liberty with linguistics, Carra Terra then stands for Beloved Earth.

Handmade in Milwaukee

All of our work is made in our small home studio located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, their design and function are deeply inspired by the lingering meals of where we began - within the hills of Tuscany, just outside of Florence. We hope bringing these pieces into your own home and restaurant inspires a small bit of la dolce vita amidst the usual rush of our busy everyday lives.
